My Day of Excellence by Ili
My day of excellence started during the holidays when I cleaned up the whole house and made dinner for my family.
I had to clean the house because my parents were away for almost 3 days, they were away because of family business. My big brother took my little brother to rugby training while my sister had to go netball training. Sitting there on the couch wondering what shall I do, I figured that I should clean the house because my parents will be coming home and my siblings will be tired, and no one would have the energy to come home and clean the house as they will be tired.
Moving all the furniture around I started up the vacuum cleaner, it made a very loud sound it felt like I was in a tornado. Moving all the furnitures, there was a lot of dust I started to scream as I saw a rat ran across the living room. I got the trap for the rat and waited after 10 minutes I heard the rat squeal and I know it was time to burn it up and never see it again. I went back inside and cleaned all the rooms, AHHAR!!! I finally finished now all was left was to put everything properly in the room,to bring all the mats and put it in the living room. I sat down and rested for a while.I heard my mum and dad's car I knew at that moment I had put everything properly and make my parents be proud of me.
My sister and brother arrived back home and feeling so lazy they didn't even speak but went to the room and layed down. My parents were surprised at the house been so clean. Evening came, I went to the park to play for a while and saw some of my friends, returning back home I felt tired so I had a bath and wandered off to my room with nothing to do. I waited anxiously at the table while drinking tea, and I thought why don't I make dinner as half of my family including my parents were tired. I seyyed of putting all the plates out and I cooked pasta, off I went cooking away it almost felt like I was in the kids master chief. I served up the plates and put out the drinks, I called out "Dinner is ready" all I could hear was stomping growing louder and louder.
Sitting down on the table we said our prayers to GOD and off we went eating away, My mum was very happy with me and said that she was going to buy me something, My dad was really happy with me and trusted me in staying by my own and said that I used my common sense really well.
In this holiday I learnt that wherever I go I will always use my common sense and remember that what ever I do I have to do it with care.
I think this would have to be the best day ever because no only I made my family proud but I also made my parents proud.

Junior Warriors Visit Tamaki Intermediate by Asa
L:I-Write a recount of the Junior Warrior visit.
On the 31st of July 2012 three Junior Warriors boys came to Tamaki Intermediate School. Their names were Omar, Aranui and Nate. The reson why they came to our school is to help develop rugby league skills because our school tourment is soon. The boys went out first to play rugby league. It was so cool when we played rugby. During the first game I scored one try for our team. Unfortunately my team lost to the other team. Next we played the team we lost to and we lost again. Next we came to have a rest. 20 minutes later the girls played while we watched the olympics on T.V. When the girls finished we took photos with Omar, Nate and Aranui.
It was so cool taking photos with the Junior Warriors. All the boys were doing some weird hand signs which was so funny and when the boys finish taking photos it was the girls turn.

Darren Lockyer
Rugby league is a really popular sport among my family and friends. Rugby league is a fun sport that is mostly popular in Australia and some parts of New Zealand. My favourite Rugby League player has always been Darren Lockyer, because he is a great person.
Darren Lockyer was born in Brisbane on the 24th of March, 1977 and then he moved to Roma as a kid. As a kid he played Aussie Rules Football even though the two towns that he had lived in had no local Aussie Rules football clubs. For his senior year he had played for the cities Gladiators. When Lockyer had made his first grade debut for the Brisbane Broncos on the bench as five-eighth, they had with a big win against the famous Parramatta Eels, defeating them 60-14 in Round 13 in 1995.
This great player usually plays five-eighth, but can also play at the fullback position. He has played more games and scored more points than any other player in their club’s history. Darren Lockyer is my favourite Rugby League player because he is fast, good at kicking, catching and can tackle for a person his size. He now plays for the Brisbane Broncos and for the State of Origin, he represents Queensland.
I believe Darren Lockyer is the greatest NRL player ever. Friday, 2 September 2011
Topic : Making an Electromagnet
Research Question: Can we make our own magnets?
Hypothesis: I think the nail will attract things made of iron.
Equipment
- half metre copper wire
- one dry cell
- 1iron nail about four centimetres in length
- electrical tape
- paper clips
- electrical tape
Method:
1. Get a half metre long copper wire and remove the insulation at both ends.
2. Wound the wire around the nail.
3. Attach the ends of the poles to the dry cell.
4. Trace the path of electricity in this device.
5. Bring the nail near some iron filings.
6. Observe how the iron filings behave.
7. Predict what would happen if the wire was detached from the dry cell.
8. Detach one wire from one terminal of the dry cell.
Observe what happens.
Safety Measures:
Be careful in removing the insulation of the copper wire to make sure you don’t damage it. Nails and paper clips are sharp so do not play with them. Wound the wire tightly and securely around the nail for positive results.
Conclusion
We can make our own magnets. The circuit was closed when you attached the ends of the wires to the poles of the battery. The nail in this experiment acted like a magnet. Electricity flowing in a conductor like the nail produces a magnetic field which results to magnetism. The nail attracts magnetic objects like the iron filings. The strength of an electromagnet is influenced by the number of turns it has on its coil, the material used and the amount of electricity in the wire.

Smoking
Tobacco comes in many different sizes and shapes. It is a dark brown leaf that is rolled into some paper as a cigarette or rolled in the form of a cigar. Smoking it can be dangerous because it can harm your lungs by getting it infected. This bad habbit of smoking tobacco could make you die young. Tobacco costs a lot of money, which you could spend on your family. Tobacco is addictive and it is very hard to quit smoking.
One of the reasons why people smoke, is to get rid of anger and depression. Some people say it helps them relax. Lots of people smoke, even some kids do. About 1.3 million people smoke each day and so the tobacco industries get a lot of money.
Smoking is bad. Tobacco should not be advertised because it is killing people and it cost a lot of money. Because you can only buy tobacco when you are over 18, young people pretend to be. When they get caught by the police the person who sold it to them will be taken to court.
Even though tobacco is readily available on shelves, we as young people should try our best to keep away from this bad habbit of smoking. It is expensive and harmful.

My Favourite Hobby
I have many hobbies, but the best one out of all is hanging out with my friends. The reason why I picked this hobby is because it is fun and I really enjoy myself.
Who are my friends? My friends are Leona, Issabel, Jessica, Glydia, Barbara, and Ola. We all go to the same school and we’re all in the same class. We all like to do everything together as one.
They are always happy, sporty, funny and active people. They have guts and I know I could trust them. Friends like that are like family to you and they are there for you when you need them.
We spend time together whenever we get the opportunity to do so. We help each other with anything. Everyday my friends and I like to hang out, and talk about the good things that have happened to us.
Our other common interest is playing rugby together because that is our favourite sport. When we are out playing rugby, we try our best to show everybody how tough we are.
